Motorbike Check: MOT, Tax and History by Reg
Check any UK motorbike, scooter or moped by its registration. Free MOT history, mileage, tax and ULEZ, worked out with the rules for bikes, not cars.
What the free motorbike check shows
Bike reports use motorbike rules throughout: the GOV.UK motorcycle tax rate, MOT class 1 or 2 and TfL's Euro 3 rule for London. We do not show car fuel, insurance or running-cost estimates for bikes.

Rates from 1 April 2026 to 31 March 2027, from GOV.UK vehicle tax rates, checked 17 October 2026. The tricycle rates are for trikes up to 450kg unladen; the table gives no rate for a heavier trike, so check that with DVLA.
Electric motorbikes have paid vehicle tax since 1 April 2025 (GOV.UK). Bikes built before 1 January 1986 can go into the historic tax class and pay nothing, but the keeper has to apply. More on the motorbike tax check page.

London ULEZ for motorbikes
London's Ultra Low Emission Zone needs motorbikes, mopeds, motor tricycles and L-category quadricycles to meet Euro 3 for NOx. A bike that does not meet it pays £12.50 a day, and the penalty for not paying is £180 (£90 if paid within 14 days). TfL says Euro 3 engines are generally those registered with the DVLA after July 2007.
TfL also exempts every vehicle built before 1 January 1973, and vehicles over 40 years old that DVLA has registered in the historic tax class. Motorbikes and mopeds are exempt from the Congestion Charge, and L-category vehicles are not subject to London's Low Emission Zone. Outside London, Birmingham's Clean Air Zone charges cars, vans, taxis, coaches, buses and lorries, and Bristol says its charges do not apply to motorbikes.
Sources: TfL (exemptions), Birmingham City Council, Bristol City Council, checked 17 October 2026.

Frequently asked questions
Is the motorbike check free?▼
Yes. Enter the registration and the free report shows the bike's MOT history from DVSA, the mileage at each MOT, its tax and MOT status from DVLA, the yearly tax rate for its engine size, its MOT class, a London ULEZ verdict and the safety recalls DVSA lists for the model. No sign-up is needed. The history check for finance, stolen and write-off records costs £4.99, one-off.
What does the £4.99 motorbike history check include?▼
Twelve checks: outstanding finance, stolen (Police National Computer), insurance write-off with the category, number of keepers with the date of each change, VIN (frame number) and engine number on record, plate transfers, colour changes, scrapped, import and export markers, DVLA identity checks and previous checks by insurers, lenders and the trade. The data is provided by Experian. You see the report straight away and get a link to it by email.
Does it work for scooters and mopeds?▼
Yes. Any UK-registered moped, scooter or motorbike can be checked by its registration, including 50cc mopeds, 125cc scooters and electric scooters that carry a number plate. Small bikes are MOT class 1 (up to 200cc) and pay the lowest tax rate.
How much is motorbike tax in 2026?▼
For a 12 month payment from 1 April 2026: £27 up to 150cc, £59 for 151cc to 400cc, £90 for 401cc to 600cc and £125 over 600cc. Electric motorbikes pay £27. These are the GOV.UK rates for motorcycles with or without a sidecar.
Do electric motorbikes pay road tax?▼
Yes. Since 1 April 2025 electric motorcycles and tricycles pay vehicle tax at the rate for the smallest engine size, which is £27 a year from April 2026. The change applies to new and existing bikes.
When does a motorbike need its first MOT?▼
In Great Britain a motorbike needs its first MOT by the third anniversary of its registration, then every year. Motorbikes up to 200cc are MOT class 1 and bigger bikes class 2; the most a test centre can charge is £29.65, or £37.80 with a sidecar.
Is my motorbike ULEZ compliant?▼
Motorbikes, mopeds and motor tricycles need to meet Euro 3 for NOx to ride in London's ULEZ without paying £12.50 a day. TfL says Euro 3 engines are generally those registered with the DVLA after July 2007. Vehicles built before 1 January 1973 are exempt, and so are vehicles over 40 years old in the historic tax class. Our report uses the Euro standard on the DVLA record when there is one, and says 'likely' when it can only go by the registration date.
How do I check if a motorbike has outstanding finance?▼
Run the £4.99 history check. It shows whether there is a finance agreement recorded against the bike and, when there is, the finance company, the type of agreement and its dates. If money is still owed, the lender may have a claim on the bike, so ask the seller to settle it before you pay.
Does the MOT history include Northern Ireland?▼
DVSA's MOT history covers motorcycles tested in Great Britain since 2005 and in Northern Ireland since 2017. Northern Ireland has its own MOT rules, so the first-MOT timing on our report is for Great Britain.
